How Luck and Hard Work Helped Giri Devanur Ring the Nasdaq Bell Twice

I am so lucky.

To date, only 22 CEOs have had the rare privilege of ringing the Nasdaq bell twice—and I’m one of them. Exactly one year ago today, on October 23, I rang the Nasdaq bell for the second time, this time for reAlpha. It was a truly humbling experience.

This moment reminds me how much of my journey is tied to both hard work and, of course, luck. And that journey continues with reAlpha, where we’re revolutionizing the real estate industry with our vision of “No Fees. Just Keys.

Marc Andreessen describes four types of luck: blind luck, luck from motion, luck from awareness, and luck from uniqueness.

While blind luck is completely out of our hands, the other three types are within our reach.

Luck from motion comes from being active—getting out there, trying things, making connections, and meeting new people. The more we move and expand our networks, the more we expose ourselves to opportunities.

Luck from awareness is about being attuned to the world around us, seeing opportunities that others miss. It’s the luck that comes from paying attention.

Luck from uniqueness? That’s the luck we create by offering something truly different that others need—like reAlpha’s disruptive approach to real estate.

So how do we increase our “surface area” for luck?

We stay in motion. We stay curious. We meet new people, build relationships, and keep pushing our limits into new spaces.

The more action we take, and the more connections we build, the more we expose ourselves to the serendipity of good fortune.

And none of this happens in isolation.

I feel truly fortunate to have an amazing circle of people around me.

Friends who challenge and inspire me.

Family who supports me through every step of the journey.

Colleagues who share the same drive and vision.

Clients who believe in me and the work we do together.

Investors and board members who trust the process and offer their insights and backing.

Luck may play a role, but so does gratitude.

By appreciating the people and the opportunities we already have, we attract even more.

Here’s to increasing our surface area for luck—and doing it together.
